1. The six conditions
These are the same criteria the quote wizard shows next to each condition, and the same list your Box repeats before checkout. Pick the highest condition every line is true for. Reference images are renders of a phone at each cosmetic grade; the criteria apply to every category we buy.
Brand New
Phone still in factory original packaging. Must come with the box and all accessories sealed/untouched.

Minor Damage
Device has only ONE issue (cracked screen, cracked back glass, cracked camera lens, or a single faulty button) and must power on. For a device to be in this condition, the following must also be true:
- Cracked display with no dead display areas
- Cracked back glass
- Cracked camera lens
- One faulty button or switch
- Faulty microphone or speaker
- Battery health below 80%
Broken
Device has more than one issue from Minor Damage, or water damage, or does not power on. For a device to be in this condition, the following must also be true:
- Water or liquid damage, corrosion, or signs of liquid intrusion
- Cracked display, damaged housing, or bent frame
- Display defects including dead pixels, white spots, or burn-in
- Multiple faulty components
- Battery health below 80% combined with other issues
- Functional defects with calling, charging, or biometric sensors
2. What the inspection checks
When your device arrives we check, in this order:
- Identity: the model, storage and carrier match the quote (the IMEI or serial tells us).
- Locks and status: no activation lock (Find My, Factory Reset Protection or a firmware password), no carrier finance lock, not reported lost, stolen or blacklisted. A carrier lock on a paid-off phone is fine: it is priced by the carrier you choose.
- Power and function: it powers on and every part works: display, touch, buttons, cameras, speakers, microphone, charging port, wireless radios and biometric sensors.
- Cosmetics: the screen, glass, frame and housing against the criteria above, including fingernail-deep scratches, dents, cracks and chips.
- Battery: the battery-health floor for the condition you chose (95 percent for Flawless, 80 percent for Good and Fair).
- Included items: whatever the wizard asked about for your model (for example a watch band or charger) is present.
Every device is inspected the same way, against the condition you selected at quote, by the Techtree team at our facility in Crown Point, Indiana.
3. If the device matches
We pay the locked price. Payment goes out by the method you chose, typically within 1-2 business days of inspection.
4. If the device differs from your description
We do not change your offer silently. We send a revised offer by email and post it on your order page, with what we found. You then have 7 days to accept or decline it:
- Accept and we pay the revised offer.
- Re-evaluate and we inspect it again (up to two times per device). The 7-day clock stops while we do.
- Decline and we return the device to you. Return shipping is free for most devices; the exceptions (activation locked, financed, blacklisted or grossly misgraded devices) are in our Terms of Service.
- No response within 7 days and the revised offer is accepted automatically, as described in the Price Lock Policy.
5. Accessories and included items
The price on a model page assumes a complete, working device. Where an included item carries a deduction (a watch band or charger, for example), the quote wizard shows the exact figure before you accept, so a missing item you already told us about changes nothing at inspection. Items sold separately from the device, such as a dock or a game, never affect the price.
6. Devices we cannot buy
- Devices that do not power on, except where the wizard offers a Broken price for the model and your answers qualify for it.
- Devices with an activation lock, a carrier finance lock, or a lost, stolen or blacklisted status. A paid-off phone that is only carrier-locked is not in this list: we buy it as it is.
- Devices with a swollen battery (a lifting screen or bulging back). Postal rules prohibit shipping a damaged lithium battery, so contact support before you send one.
- Devices where the wizard makes no offer for the chosen condition: we say so up front rather than quote a placeholder.
