1. Who we are
Techtree is a device buyback service operated by Forest Bay International LLC, doing business as Techtree ("Techtree," "we," "us," or "our"). We buy phones, tablets, laptops, desktops, smartwatches, game consoles, audio devices, and similar electronics. When these terms say "you" or "your," they mean the person selling a device to us.
These terms, together with our Privacy Policy, Data Wipe Policy, and Price Lock Policy, form the entire agreement between you and us regarding the sale of your device. If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest stays in effect.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old and able to enter into a binding contract. You must be the legal owner of the device you sell, or be authorized by the owner to sell it. You agree to provide accurate, current, and complete information.
3. How the trade-in works
You get an instant quote, accept the offer, ship your device to us with a free prepaid label, and we inspect it. If the device matches what you told us, we pay you the quoted price. If it does not, we may send you a revised offer, which you can accept or decline. The sections below explain each step.
4. Quotes and your offer
A quote is an estimate based on the information you provide about your device (model, storage, condition, and similar details). When you accept an offer, we lock that price for a set period so you have time to ship. The lock period and what happens if your device arrives late are described in our Price Lock Policy.
Quotes are not guaranteed until you accept the offer, and a quote may be revised or withdrawn if it resulted from an obvious error, fraud, or device information that turns out to be inaccurate. We may decline to buy any device at our discretion.
5. Your promises about the device
When you accept an offer and send us a device, you promise that:
- You own the device free and clear, or are authorized to sell it, and there are no liens or unpaid financing, installment, or carrier balances tied to it.
- The device is genuine, is not counterfeit, and has not been reported lost or stolen and is not blacklisted.
- You have described the device and its condition accurately and in good faith.
- You have removed all activation locks and account locks before shipping, including Find My / Activation Lock (Apple), Factory Reset Protection (Android / Google), and any mobile device management (MDM) or carrier lock you control.
- Selling the device does not break any law or any agreement you have with a carrier, retailer, employer, or other party.
You agree to indemnify us against any loss or claim arising from a breach of these promises.
6. Shipping your device
We provide a free prepaid, trackable shipping label. You are responsible for packaging your device safely and securely so it is protected against damage in transit. Use proper padding and a sturdy box, and follow any packaging guidance we provide.
Risk of loss and transit coverage. The device remains your property, and at your risk, until it reaches our facility. Every prepaid label includes free coverage of up to $100 for loss or damage in transit. If your device is worth more than $100, you may add Shipping Protection at checkout to insure the label for your full offer value. The Shipping Protection fee is 1% of your items value (on the amount over the free $100) and is deducted from your final payout. If you do not add Shipping Protection, our responsibility for loss or damage in transit is limited to $100, and you accept the risk of any value above that. We recommend keeping your tracking number until payment is complete.
7. Inspection and revised offers
When your device arrives, we inspect it and verify its condition, identifiers (such as IMEI or serial number), lock status, and that it is not blacklisted. If the device matches your description, we proceed to payment at the quoted price.
If our inspection finds that the device differs from what you described, is locked, financed, or blacklisted, or is otherwise worth a different amount, we will send you a revised offer by email and in your order page. You have 7 days from the date of the revised offer to accept or decline it. If you do not respond within 7 days, the revised offer is automatically accepted and we proceed to payment at the revised price. See our Price Lock Policy for details.
8. Returns
If you decline a revised offer, we will return your device. Return shipping is free for most devices. However, free returns do not apply, and you may be responsible for return shipping (or the device may not be returnable), where the device is:
- activation locked or account locked (for example, Find My / Activation Lock, FRP, or MDM not removed);
- subject to unpaid financing, an installment plan, or a carrier balance;
- reported lost or stolen, or blacklisted; or
- grossly misgraded or misrepresented (for example, described as flawless but actually cracked, water damaged, or non functional).
We may be unable to return a device that the law prevents us from returning (for example, a device reported stolen). SIM cards and memory cards are not returned (see our Data Wipe Policy).
9. Payment
Once an offer (original or revised) is accepted, we pay you using the payout method you chose, such as PayPal, Zelle, Cash App, or Venmo. Payments are typically issued within 1 to 2 business days after the offer is finalized.
You are responsible for selecting and verifying your payout method and destination details (for example, the correct email address, phone number, or username). We send payment to the details you provide. We are not responsible for payments delayed, misdirected, or lost because you gave us inaccurate or outdated payout information. If a payment is returned to us, we will work with you to reissue it to corrected details.
10. Communications
We communicate with you by email and, if you opted in, by SMS, as well as through your online order page. You are responsible for monitoring your email and text messages(including spam and promotions folders) and for keeping your contact information current, so you receive important notices such as revised offers and the deadlines that apply to them. You agree that electronic notices satisfy any legal requirement that a communication be in writing.
11. Transfer of ownership
Ownership of the device transfers to us when an offer (original or revised) is accepted, including automatic acceptance after the 7 day revised-offer window. Until then, the device remains yours. Once ownership transfers, the sale is final and the device may be erased, refurbished, recycled, or resold.
12. Prohibited and unlawful devices
You may not sell a device that is stolen, fraudulently obtained, counterfeit, or subject to a third party claim. You agree to comply with all applicable laws, including U.S. export controls and economic sanctions administered by the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC). We may report and surrender devices to law enforcement where required by law.
13. Data on your device
You are responsible for backing up and removing your personal data and accounts before shipping. How we handle data on devices we receive, and the disclaimers that apply, are described in our Data Wipe Policy.
14. Disclaimers
The Techtree website and services are provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non infringement, to the fullest extent permitted by law.
15. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost data, lost profits, or loss of goodwill. Our total liability to you for any claim arising out of or relating to your device, these terms, or our services will not exceed the greater of (a) the amount we agreed to pay you for the device, or (b) $100. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so some of these limits may not apply to you.
16. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Forest Bay International LLC (d/b/a Techtree) and its officers, employees, and agents from any claims, damages, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your breach of these terms, your sale of a device, or your violation of any law or third party right.
17. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. The "Last updated" date above shows when. Changes apply to transactions started after they are posted. Each time you submit a device, you reaffirm your agreement to the then-current terms.
18. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Indiana, without regard to its conflict of laws rules. You agree that any dispute arising out of or relating to these terms or your sale of a device will be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Lake County, Indiana, and you consent to the personal jurisdiction of those courts.
